Mammillaria Spinosissima Un Pico
The species Mammillaria spinosissima is a highly variable and VERY spiny species of cactus. The cultivar ‘Un Pico’, however, is a selection of a stable genetic mutation that only produces one long central spine and some may have none. Common names for the species include Bald-Headed Irishman and Spiny Pincushion Cactus. The stem grows up to 12" tall and 4" in diameter. Flowers are freely produced and form a ring around the upper part of the plant. Flowers are purplish or deep pink.
